The University Grants Commission has published the much awaited draft regulations for Foreign Higher Educational Institutions (“FHEI”) to set up operations in India. This is in furtherance of the National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP) which envisaged internationalisation of higher education in India. With these reforms, the education sector in India is likely to see a revolution.

Vinita Mehra

Vinita serves as leader of the firm’s Global Business practice and is qualified and licensed to practice law in both Ohio and India. She counsels corporate clients regarding a broad range of complex national and international corporate transactions and intellectual property issues.

As leader of the firm’s Global Education practice initiative, Vinita has led dozens of education projects for institutions across the country, doing business in nearly twenty of the world’s leading markets and guiding public universities through the complex regulatory and funding process involved in global expansion. While addressing the complex regulatory, tax and contractual issues at play, Vinita works with educational leaders and university counsel to devise and execute new market strategies, implement project development initiatives, and establish education support services and recruiting initiatives.

Ashish Sodhani

Leader – International Tax Practice, Nishith Desai Associates

Ashish Sodhani is leader of the International Tax Practice at Nishith Desai Associates. Ashish’s practice areas include cross border tax, corporate structuring and tax litigation. On the industry side he focuses on gaming, IT, education, ed-tech, start-ups. He regularly advises foreign educational institutions on various tax issues such as as AOP, PE etc. He is also has been involved in structuring transactions for foreign universities looking to set up shop in India. He is a regular litigator and is has represented clients before various forum’s including Tribunals, various High Courts and Supreme Court of India in relation to disputes on international tax. He regularly writes articles which are published in international leading publications.

 

Aparna Gaur

Leader – Education Practice, Nishith Desai Associates

Aparna leads the Education practice at Nishith Desai Associates and is also a senior member of the TMT and IP practice. She has broad experience in advising clients in relation to issues pertaining to structuring, regulatory as well as contractual aspects both at K-12 and higher education levels. Her expertise in intellectual property ownership and enforcement, e-commerce, cyber security, data protection combined with her knowledge of new-age technologies has enabled her to provide holistic strategic advisory to clients.

Aniruddha is a senior member of the Education, TMT and IP practice, Nishith Desai Associates.
