Introduction:

The Law Commission of England and Wales has recently published two consultation papers containing its proposals for reform of the Arbitration Act 1996. Our diverse panel of experts (including former UK Attorney General Lord Goldsmith KC PC and former UK Supreme Court President Lord Neuberger KC PC) will consider how the arbitration legislation of a jurisdiction impacts whether it is chosen as a seat. We will ask what London needs to do to keep its place as a pre-eminent arbitral seat and whether the Law Commission’s proposals are sufficient to achieve that objective, particularly in the context of competition from other jurisdictions and from the perspective of international users of arbitration. This event is an LIDW23 member-hosted event and is being co-hosted by Debevoise & Plimpton LLP and Nishith Desai Associates.
